LOVESPOONS

Hand made from a single piece of wood, the lovespoons began in Wales for more
than a thousand years, supposedly introduced by the Celts. The oldest spoon
dates back to 1667 and is displayed at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.
The lovespoons represented a form of commitment or engagement. Young people

offered to his beloved spoons made by them in the hope that they accept them,
which meant a commitment or engagement. The spoon was then exposed in a wall
of the bride's house for everyone to know that she was compromised.
The spoons have many kinds of ornaments, each one with its meaning.
